For years, I walked the path of the "Black Sheep"; raising myself, navigating isolation, and fighting battles with no one to turn to. Paradoxically, while I struggled to find support for myself, I was always the anchor for everyone else.
In the silence of that isolation, I wrestled with four questions:

- Why, despite everything, do I still have so much love to give?
- Why do I long for love, yet find it absent?
- Why must I fight so hard just to survive?
I found the answers not in textbooks, but through the guidance of my ancestors; the Sáamaka Maroons of Suriname who fought for freedom and preserved their identity against all odds.
Their wisdom taught me what no institution could: how to breathe through pain, how to journal my way to clarity, how to unlearn survival patterns and relearn thriving ones.
I realized that my history was not a tragedy to overcome, but a curriculum to master. What I lived through does not make me a victim, it makes me a guide for those still on the journey. I have walked the path myself, and now I hold the lantern for leaders ready to find their own way.
